My Pigeon Area

This is where I have most of my pigeons at. As soon as I can get some money to give to someone else so I can use some land somewhere, I will set up a nicer home that will protect them from stupid cats when I let them fly around outside. Right now they are in an annoying setup because the area is too small, and I have to many individual spots, instead of one nice big one.

I used to have a decent pigeon hut at my parents house, but my dad does not like how pigeons make noise when he tells them to be quiet. He does not get it at all, nor that maybe they do not want to hear him! About a year after I left their place [because of my dad] The roof got messed up [because of my dad] and it allowed a feral cat to get up on top and into the aviary, and it had a hay-day killing all of my birds except for a few. Of course it did not eat any, just wanted to play. That cat got shot in the head at point blank range. Take that...and I am just playing! The vultures got the meal. I usually always have a lot of vultures around [back when I was there] because of all the cats and oppossums that were given to them. Amazing how everyone wants a cat, but does not watch them. Oh well.

This is Lisa checking up on one of the cages. Behind her is a row of more pigeons, and to my right there are some more too. This is along the west side of the backyard where the pigeons are. There is a narrow pathway to get back here.

This is the center area of the back yard. Mostly just junk
This is what the center of the back yard looks like. The pigeons usually do not venture out over here, but towhees and sparrows like farting around in it. There are also usually cats that like sleeping in with the lumber. Further back is an apiary. Eventually this will all get cleared out and be a more civilized backyard.

These two cages usually are where the fighters are, but not always. It is in need of dire repairs, and is falling apart. It is not very secure from predators, and rats can easily get in, let alone any cat that would try hard enough. It used to have rabbits in it, which rusted out the bottoms because their owner neglected doing any cleaning. Too lazy, and too `high' to do that type of stuff. In this photo there are a lot of bricks holding down wood to seal up the big holes, and has since been replaced with wire mesh, since the bricks and storms busted off the cage's supports. Underneath is a cage

Picture of backyard fence
This is the back fence, and the pigeons love having it to walk around, and it is commonly used as a landing and chase eachother around platform. Cats usually like it too though, and opossums. The pigeons also enjoy the roof of the neighbor's shed. They commonly fly back and forth from there to the fence or to the roof over the pigeon area.

Picture of neighbor's backyard
This is what you see if you peek over into the neighbors back yard. They never really do anything back there, like most people. The pigeons sometimes forage a little bit there, and if they do not try and keep it very civilized, other birds like it too, especially sparrows and scrubjays. They do have a small retarded dog though, and it comes around every now and then and scares away everything. It is a really dumb dog.

Image of a bunch of containers on top of the cage
On top of one set of cages is a bunch of food containers. When Lisa was the maintainer of the pigeons there were also a bunch of water containers too. All were old gallon mayonaise containers from Costco. But when we moved and I took over taking care of the Pigeons, I just used the hose. Worked way better besides the simplicity. Now Lisa does the same. Now days there are only a few seed containers, and no water containers. They also eat a lot of bread instead of just seeds.

Durring the winter months here in Santa Rosa, Ca, it usually rains all the time, non stop for weeks on end, have a few days of sun, and then another two weeks of rain. The ground is all supersaturated and slush. Then in the summer there is no rain and everything is parched. [Meditareanean, hot summers climate (Csa)]. There is no roof right over the pathway, and the rain blows right in and gets everything all wet, so I put up some cheap protection that lasts for a week or so before it falls down. The roof itself does not do all that great because the person who made it did it incorrectly and quite cheap.

There used to be a bunch of pigeons in the one cage on the bottom, with the top all bent up, but not right now. [right now that whole area is all taken out - old photo] Rats were obsessed with going into the cage or getting under it and munching pigeons. There are two more cages on top of it, and at the time this pic was taken they had some of our other doves in it [like Ratty the Beeezdeh].

Right in the middle of the main pigeon area, there usually were pigeons on both sides of this narrow walkway filled with clothing-snagging GOOD junk - [that chevy gas tank is worth over a hundred bucks!]. This is a great spot to get audio recordings of hega PIGEONS!!!!!!

On the other side of the fence is this yard, with a hega flying over it! The top of the fence is a prime spot.

This is the main walkway in the back yard that goes to the pigeon's part of it.
This is the main walkway in the backyard. It is used to go to the pigeons if you come out from the back of the house. There is also a weight training area where I would go and work out in the early mornings until the late night tv wathchers and video game players woke up.

There are a lot of good tires around there in the backyard too.
There are a lot of good tires in the back yard too. Some are junk though. There is also some wire messhing that may be used to construct a nice aviary some day.
